I ran into the woods knowing exactly where I was headed. My sisters and I have a huge tree fort with a swing and it made the perfect quiet spot.
I had been trying to make things happen in my own power, forgetting to seek God. I needed to think. I needed to pray. The quietness of nature was the perfect place to do it!
Are you overwhelmed?
Have you ever gotten overwhelmed with life and tried to do things in your own power? Whenever I find myself doing this and I examine myself it always comes down to the same fact. I haven’t been seeking God as I should.
Don’t lean on yourself.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
How often do we forget to trust God, and instead we start leaning on our own understanding?
We like to say, “ Yeah, I know I am supposed to wait and trust in God, but it would be much easier if I just made it happen now.” But in reality, with that mindset, we are only setting ourselves up for more trouble and frustration.
On the flip side when we choose to trust the Lord and acknowledge Him, He promises to make our paths straight. Seeking the Lord in all you do can only make things more clear and help you understand what to do.
Seek God.
In 1 Peter 5:7 we see that we can hand over our cares to God because he cares for us.
The devil would love to trip us, to make us discouraged and overwhelmed, but we must stay alert always seeking God.
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).
Finding Peace.
The cares of this world can be overwhelming, but when we keep our mind on Christ we can have peace!
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you”(Isaiah 26:3).
Let’s strive together to lean on God more and ourselves less!
- Do you have a special quiet place you go to seek God?
- Do you like to take control and try to do things without God?
- Do you seek God on a regular basis?
- What do you lean on when you are overwhelmed?
