I was young. I was in love. Life was looking pretty good.
As a naive twenty-something Christian girl, I had my entire future planned out. I would get married within the year and leave the worries of the single life behind me.
Little did I know, everything was about to change.
Less than twenty-four hours had passed and my entire life was turned upside down.
I went from a girl in a relationship to a girl out of a relationship. Totally heartbroken by my new status as a single, I needed help and I needed it quick.
Through blurry tear-filled-eyes, I scanned the books on my bookshelf. I’d collected quite the stash of books over the years and I hoped something in that stash could help me.
Learning to Long for God Alone…the subtitle caught my eye.
It was exactly what I needed.
I needed to learn to long for God alone. He was all I truly had at this point. Without hesitation, I pulled the book off of the shelf and tossed it on my bed. I felt hopeful that reading a solid Christian book would offer me guidance and direction during this difficult time.
Little did I know that reading, Idols of the Heart: Learning to Long for God Alone, as well as, Choosing Gratitude: Your Journey to Joy, would radically change my life as a single woman.
The next few weeks totally rocked my world.
I was reading things and learning truths that stood out to me in a whole new way.
God was gently showing me my desperate need to fully find satisfaction in Him. He was showing me that I could have true satisfaction and genuine joy as a single woman. He was showing me that my happiness did not depend on my relationship status.
Long story short, those two books radically changed the course of my future.
My life, as a single woman, took on an entirely new meaning. I was no longer wishing the single years away. I was genuinely learning to live in true joy, excitement, and anticipation of all that God had for my future.
If you’re in a season (whether single, in a relationship or married etc.) and feel discontent or dissatisfied in any way, I have great news for you!
There is so much hope for your future. You do not have to live in a constant state of misery and unfulfilled longings.
God truly has the power to satisfy your soul in miraculous ways.
When we, as Christian women, learn to truly love Jesus with all of our heart, soul, mind and, strength, it changes everything. Living to honor Jesus truly becomes the driving factor for every decision that we make. Instead of living for the “greener grass” we choose to joyfully embrace the blessings God has given us in the season we are in.
If you’re sick and tired of being sad, discontent, worried, depressed and just all over unhappy, I’m challenging you to take a step of action.
Don’t let this year slip by without taking a step of action.
